About us
Who we are
We believe the church isn’t a building, but a group of people who are loved by God, love Jesus, and love one another. We’re all different – from very young to very old(!), with a range of different backgrounds, interests and personalities, yet we have all been changed by the wonderful message about Jesus. We love meeting together to give thanks to God and to encourage one another to grow in faith as we hear the Bible read and simply explained. We believe the Bible contains the most important message that you could ever hear, and you are warmly welcome to join us.
Our leaders
Adrian has been Pastor since October 2024 and teaches Church History on the Evangelical Movement of Wales’ Theological Training Course. He has pastored churches in Carmarthen and in Mountain Ash and has worked as a secondary school teacher. He is married to Naomi and they have a son named Osian. Adrian is an avid watcher of sport, particularly cricket, football and snooker but his greatest delight comes from knowing Jesus.
Jeff is an elder and the church secretary. He is a retired Wrexham University lecturer and has been happily married to Sian for 42 years. They have three children and seven grandchildren. He is a Welsh speaker and has many opportunities to preach in Welsh in local chapels. He enjoys watching sport on television and going for short daily walks around the village. His greatest joy is knowing and serving Jesus.
Toby is an elder and the church treasurer. He has fond memories of studying at Union School of Theology and Cardiff University before moving to North Wales, where he lives with his wife Cath and their four children. He works full time as an analyst. To relax, he enjoys playing games or learning something new.
Tudor is a deacon and the church caretaker. He has been married to Thelma for 55 years. They have two children and six grandchildren. He has played many varieties of sports, and cricket is his speciality. His favourite hymn is ‘What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear’.
What we believe
We are affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) and are members of the Associating Evangelical Churches of Wales (AECW)
Statement of Faith
We take as our primary authority the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, as originally given. We accept them as the inspired and infallible Word of God, His full and final revelation of Himself and His will. Recognising them as our sole and sufficient authority in all matters of faith and practice, we believe the doctrines taught therein, including in particular the following:
a) GOD:
We believe in the one true and living God, everlasting and sovereign in creation, providence and redemption. In the unity of this Godhead there are three persons of the same substance, co-equal and co-eternal, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
b) MAN:
God, by a supernatural and definite act, made the first man, Adam, in His own likeness: upright, innocent and holy, enjoying fellowship with God, and glorifying Him. Adam’s sin is reckoned to all his posterity, so that all men are born in a state of guilt, total depravity, separation from God and condemnation to eternal death.
c) THE PERSON AND WORK OF JESUS CHRIST:
The Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, undertook from before the foundation of the world to be the Mediator of God’s elect people. Taking a real human nature in the womb of the Virgin Mary, He lived a perfect and sinless life. In accordance with the Father’s will, He freely offered Himself as a full and sufficient sacrifice, propitiation and satisfaction for the sins of all whom the Father had given Him. Having finished the work of redemption, He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, in order to send the Holy Spirit upon His Church, to receive all who come to the Father by Him, and to reign as Head of the Church.
d) JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH:
God freely justifies all who believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. Their sins are reckoned to Christ who bore them on the cross, and His righteousness is reckoned to their account. Sinners are united to Christ by faith, and accounted righteous by God for Christ’s sake.
e) THE HOLY SPIRIT:
The work of regeneration is not an act of man’s free will and ability, but is an effectual sovereign work of the Holy Spirit who enables the sinner to repent of his sin and to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit who indwells all believers, applies the benefits of Christ’s death and resurrection, and progressively sanctifies the Christian. He keeps all those whom He calls until the day of redemption so that they shall never perish, but have everlasting life.
f) THE CHURCH:
The Church of God comprises only those who are regenerate, and it exists to worship and to glorify God, to declare His word, to promote sanctification and good works amongst its members, and to administer Christ’s ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
g) THE LAST THINGS:
At a day and hour which no man knows, Christ will return personally, visibly and gloriously, to raise the dead (both righteous and unrighteous) and judge all men. Unbelievers, as a just reward for their sin and impenitence, will be banished to everlasting punishment, while believers, because of the mercy of God in Christ, will be admitted into heaven and enter into the joy of their Lord, sharing with Him His inheritance in glory.
